John provides fractional CFO services at Kernutt Stokes, where he serves small and mid-sized businesses and nonprofits in multiple industries. He is a highly qualified financial executive with more than thirty years of experience ranging from small privately held companies to large, publicly traded, manufacturing companies.
John worked several years at a recreational vehicle company where he was hired as the controller to help reverse the company’s history of losses. Partnering with other senior managers, they achieve sustained profitability within six months. He took on increasing areas of responsibility: CFO, treasurer, executive vice president and finally president, as part of the key management group responsible for growing the company from sales of $17 million and 75 employees to a peak of $1.4 billion in sales and 6,500 employees. His role grew to involve all areas of the business, treasury, investor relations, M&A, sales, marketing and operations.
John then worked for three smaller, privately held firms. As the CFO for a small entrepreneurial group, John organized and implemented accounting systems for 18 separate operating entities tied to commercial real estate development. In addition to his accounting duties, he assisted principals with capital raising, and with bank and financing relationships.
He joined a small steel fabrication company as the controller to support management and financial reporting, which included market and operational strategy, and financial expertise.
And most recently, John was the CFO for a private technology company. He was hired to improve its financial reporting and analysis with the goal of packaging the company for the founder’s exit within three to five years. The company sold in two years. After the transaction, he assisted the acquirer, a small public technology company, with the transition and management of day-to-day accounting activities and reporting.
John, his wife, Brenda, and their youngest son live in Springfield, Oregon. He enjoys gardening and the outdoors, spending time with his grandchildren, and traveling.
