I have an uncle who is an accountant and it always seemed like such a challenging and respected job. Due to this impression, I took some accounting classes in high school and ended up enjoying them—so I decided to give it a shot in college. It is probably a tie between Ready Player One by Ernest Cline and The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.

Why did you choose Kernutt Stokes over other firms you may have had in mind?
I was applying for jobs in the industry, but not for public accounting positions. Explore the area and try new restaurants.

What inspired you to become an accountant?
My grandparents owned a flower shop in Chicago for 40 years. I spent many summers there, and I remember helping out in the office—endorsing checks for deposit, using the calculator tape to total the checks, writing out deposit slips, reconciling the cash register, and other accounting-type duties. I think that this, subconsciously, may have been my inspiration. Ever since then, I’ve learned that being an accountant is so much more than calculators and deposit slips—I’ve enjoyed the adventure!
